The Nigerian Army has opened a special recruitment exercise for Nigerians with technical and vocational skills as part of the 92 Regular Recruits Intake, creating an opportunity for qualified applicants in selected specialist fields to join the service.
Online registration for the special skilled recruitment began on September 16, 2026, and is scheduled to close on October 21, 2026. The Army said the exercise is intended to attract applicants with practical skills needed in specialised areas of military service.
Among the categories specifically highlighted are boat operators, marine mechanics, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers and other technical apprentices.
Who the Army is seeking
The special intake is aimed at applicants whose existing technical abilities can be applied to military operations and support functions.
The listed areas include marine operations and mechanical and electrical engineering, while other qualified technical apprentices may also be considered if they meet the Army’s requirements.
The recruitment forms part of the wider 92 Regular Recruits Intake, which also covers tradesmen, non-tradesmen and women.
The Army has directed prospective applicants to study the official recruitment requirements carefully before submitting their applications.
Official age requirements differ from some reports
Some reports about the special recruitment have described the age requirement as 18 to 35 years. However, the Nigerian Army’s recruitment portal provides more specific age limits for the 92 Regular Recruits Intake.
According to the official portal, applicants for non-trades positions must be at least 18 and not more than 22 years old by October 21, 2026, while tradesmen and women must not be more than 26 years old by that date.
Because the official recruitment portal is the controlling source for application requirements, prospective applicants should rely on its current instructions rather than the broader age range repeated by some news reports.
Other requirements
The Army’s recruitment portal states that applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth and must possess a valid National Identification Number and Bank Verification Number.
Candidates must also satisfy the Army’s medical, physical and psychological fitness standards and must not have a criminal conviction from a court of competent jurisdiction.
For the educational requirement, applicants must have at least four passes, including English Language, in WASSCE, GCE, NECO, NABTEB or NBAIS in not more than two sittings.
Candidates applying as tradesmen or women must additionally possess a relevant Trade Test or City and Guild certificate.
The Army also requires applicants to provide acceptable evidence of their date of birth, while candidates must apply using their state of origin rather than their state of residence.
Physical and conduct requirements
The recruitment portal sets minimum height requirements of 1.68 metres for male applicants and 1.65 metres for female applicants.
It also states that candidates must meet the Army’s standards concerning physical fitness and personal conduct. Restrictions include certain tattoos, multiple ear piercings for female candidates and membership of cults, societies or fraternities.
Candidates are expected to present original educational certificates during screening.
The Army warns that anyone found to have forged or falsified documents can be withdrawn from the training process.
Recruitment is free
The Nigerian Army has again warned prospective applicants against recruitment scams.
The service says recruitment is free and candidates should not give money, gifts or other forms of gratification to individuals or organisations claiming that they can secure recruitment slots or influence the selection process.
This warning is particularly relevant during large recruitment exercises, when unofficial agents can attempt to exploit applicants by promising preferential treatment.
Candidates should therefore use the Army’s official recruitment platform and rely on information published by the service.
Screening scheduled for November
Applicants who successfully complete the registration process will not automatically be recruited.
The Army’s official portal states that shortlisted candidates are expected to report to their respective states of origin for the recruitment screening exercise between November 17 and December 1, 2026.
The names of shortlisted candidates are to be published by the Nigerian Army for public awareness, according to the recruitment portal.
Candidates will also be required to present relevant original documents during the screening process.
What applicants should do
Prospective applicants should first confirm that they meet the relevant educational, age, physical and documentary requirements before submitting an application.
Applicants with technical skills should also confirm that their qualifications correspond with the categories specified by the Army, particularly where a Trade Test, City and Guild certificate or another technical qualification is required.
The application deadline is October 21, 2026, meaning candidates have several weeks to complete the process.
The Army’s recruitment exercise comes as the service seeks personnel with different technical capabilities alongside conventional recruits.
For applicants interested in the specialist intake, the key steps are to use the official recruitment portal, provide accurate information, submit the required documents and avoid anyone requesting payment for recruitment assistance.
