Ugo Ugochukwu has completed one of the biggest achievements of his young racing career, winning the 2026 FIA Formula 3 Championship after a dramatic final round in Madrid, Spain.
The 19-year-old Nigerian-American driver finished second in Sunday’s final Feature Race at the Madring circuit, doing enough to secure the championship ahead of British rival Freddie Slater. Ugochukwu ended the season 14 points clear at the top of the standings.
The title also placed Ugochukwu in the history books. He became the first American driver to win the FIA Formula 3 Championship, adding another milestone to a season in which he emerged as one of the leading young talents in international motorsport.
A Championship Decided in Madrid
The title fight went down to the final weekend.
Ugochukwu entered the Madrid finale in a closely contested battle with Slater, an Audi junior driver who had led the championship earlier in the season.
The pressure was particularly high because Slater had built an advantage during the middle part of the campaign. At the Budapest round in July, Slater defeated Ugochukwu in the Feature Race and took an eight-point championship lead into the summer break.
